I want to wish everybody a Merry Christmas and a Happy 2024!

When a look back at the year 2023 it was the year Final Fantasy XVI was released, the 16th main entry in the Final Fantasy series. The game received good reviews, but did not meet Square Enix's expectations in terms of sales figures. The game got several updates and recently the first paid downloadable content was released.

Happy Holidays!Another game that was released this year was Forspoken (titled Project Athia during development). The game did not receive good reviews causing Luminous Productions, the developer, to be disbanded.

Other games that came out this year are Theatrhythm Final Bar Line, Octopath Traveler II, Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai – Infinity Strash, Star Ocean: The Second Story R (the remake to Star Ocean: The Second Story released in 1998) and Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince.

What will 2024 bring us? Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth, the second game (of 3 parts) in the Final Fantasy VII remake project will be up first with the release on 29 February. Other games that will be released are SaGa: Emerald Beyond and the recently announced Visions of Mana. Maybe we'll hear something about Kingdom Hearts IV, Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake and Dragon Quest XII.

What about Hell and Heaven Net in 2024? Drupal, the system Hell and Heaven Net is running on, needs to be upgraded. I didn't had the time for it. If you want to support me, please let me know.

Happy Holidays!I want to wish everybody a Merry Christmas and a Happy 2022!

Like previous year, this year was also a strange year. The COVID-19 pandemic continued in 2021. Several new variants of the virus were discovered.

Also this year several events like E3 and Tokyo Game Show were online only.

In 2021 we've got a lot of remasters like the first 5 Final Fantasy games in the series got re-released under the Pixel Remaster title on Steam and mobile devices. We also got SaGa Frontier, NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139... and Legend of Mana.

In June 2021 the PlayStation 5 version of Final Fantasy VII Remake was released titled Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade which adds Episode INTERmission, an expansion which features playable character Yuffie. This December the game was released on PC exclusively on the Epic Game Store. However, it was not received very well by the fans due to technical issues.

SoraOther Square Enix games that were released this year are Bravely Default 2, Balan Wonderworld and Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier.

What will 2022 bring us? It will be a better year than 2021 with more new games to be released like Babylon's Fall, Triangle Strategy, Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin (Chaos) and Forspoken. Hopefully more information will be released of Final Fantasy XVI.

What about Hell and Heaven in 2022? In 2022 Drupal, the system Hell and Heaven Net is running on, will be upgraded. Maybe with a new style. If you want to support me, please let me know.

Stay safe.

Hell and Heaven Net

Version 9 of Hell and Heaven Net On 13 July 2001, today 20 years ago Hell and Heaven Net was founded! Before that I had a personal website, but I renamed it to Hell and Heaven Net. Why this name? Because in Final Fantasy VIII there are two islands: Island Closest to Hell and Island Closest to Heaven. I wanted an unique name for the website, not a name like Final Fantasy Heaven. The site was first started as a Final Fantasy & Dragon Ball Z fansite, but some months later I decided to drop Dragon Ball Z coverage and focus on Final Fantasy (and later other Square Enix titles).

In the 20 years a lot has changed. The web was really different in 2001. No smartphones you need to take into account when designing your website, no fast internet, no YouTube, Twitter or Facebook.

In 20 years the layout of Hell and Heaven Net has changed 13 times. Most of the layouts were gray themed (like the current one), but there also were a lot of blue ones (like the screenshot). Version 13 is already 9 years old and even most of the games we cover still use version 12, because they haven't been converted to the content management system. Since I have a full time job as a Java Developer, I don't have a lot of time to update the website anymore.

I would like to thank all my former staff members for supporting me all these years. And of course Square Enix for creating the Final Fantasy series. Without them, this website wouldn't exist.

Happy Holidays!I want to wish everybody a Merry Christmas and a Happy 2021!

2020 was a year where everything was different. The outbreak of COVID-19 worldwide caused a lot of suffering. We lost loved ones, others became (very) sick. To prevent the spread of the virus, we lost a lot of freedom by staying at home and working at home (causing video calls with questions like "can you hear me?"). Several companies developed a vaccine, but I have my doubts whether everyone will be vaccinated soon.

The COVID-19 outbreak also had an impact on the gaming sector. Several events (like E3 and gamescom) were cancelled or online only.

The most anticipated game this year was Final Fantasy VII Remake which has been released on 10 April 2020 after one month delay which was announced in January. This first part takes place in Midgar, were several new elements have been added to the storyline. The game received very good reception and selling over 3,5 million copies in the first 3 days. In August 5 million copies were sold.

SoraIn the same month another remake was released; the remake of the 1995 game Trials of Mana. In August we got a remastered version of Final Fantasy Chrystal Chronicles, called Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Remastered Edition. In November the first rhythm game in the Kingdom Hearts series was released: Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory and early this month Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age - Definitive Edition.

What will 2021 bring us? Square Enix has announced that in 2021 more information will be released of Final Fantasy XVI. Hopefully more information will also be revealed for Babylon's Fall and Project Athia. In February Bravely Default 2 will be released and in March Balan Wonderworld (not really a RPG).

What about Hell and Heaven in 2021? In 2021 Hell and Heaven Net will celebrate its 20th birthday, which is really old for a Final Fantasy / Square Enix fansite. If you have any ideas how to celebrate, please let me know.

Stay safe.

Happy Holidays!I want to wish everybody a Merry Christmas and a Happy 2020!

This year, 2019, started with the release of the long awaited Kingdom Hearts III. The game received positive reviews, however some fans were dissapointed that no Final Fantasy characters are in the game. Next month Re:Mind, the DLC episode, will be released, that will include Final Fantasy characters.

In March Final Fantasy XV: Episode Ardyn, the last DLC for Final Fantasy XV was released 2 years after the release of the game. Square Enix also released Chocobo’s Mystery Dungeon: Every Buddy!, the remastered version of Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo's Dungeon. In July Dragon Quest Builders 2 was released.

There was also some development with the Mana series. Square Enix released Collection of Mana which contains Final Fantasy Adventure, Secret of Mana and for the first-time available in the West Trials of Mana (formely known as Seiken Densetsu 3).

2019 was also the year that a lot of Final Fantasy games have been released on Xbox One and Nintendo Switch, like Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy IX, Final Fantasy X / Final Fantasy X-2 and Final Fantasy XII. One Final Fantasy was still missing, but in September the remastered version of Final Fantasy VIII was released.

There are several Square Enix games planned for released in 2020. Final Fantasy VII Remake being the game most looking forward to. Also a remake of Trails of Mana will be released in April and Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Remastered Edition this Summer.

This year I didn't had enough time to update the website content and revive the community forums. In 2020 I don't see a lot of change in this I'm afraid.

Happy Holidays!I want to wish everybody a Merry Christmas and a Happy 2019!

In 2018 Square Enix has not released many RPG's. In January we got Lost Sphear, the second game from Tokyo RPG Factory, and the console port of the arcade title Dissidia Final Fantasy called Dissidia Final Fantasy NT (I haven't played it much) which was received with mixed reviews. Also the sales were below expectations.

In February Square Enix released the remake of Secret of Mana. This version was received with mixed to bad reviews stating that the game seems to be rushed which results in numerous bugs from game freezes, crashes and other show-stopping bugs. Square Enix released a couple of patches to fix these problems.

In September Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age was released worldwide. Multiple reviewers called the game the best in the Dragon Quest series. By November 2018 over four million copies were sold worldwide.

Other RPG'a that Square Enix has released this year are: Octopath Traveler, World of Final Fantasy Maxima and The Last Remnant Remastered.

Final Fantasy XV got several updates this year and Square Enix released the Royal Edition containing all DLC from the season pass. Also the pocket edition was released. However in November 2018 Square Enix has announced that in 2019 only Episode Ardyn will be released and the 3 other episodes have been cancelled. Hajime Tabata, director of Final Fantasy XV, has left the company.

What will 2019 bring us? In about one month Kingdom Hearts III will (finally) be released. Also Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles and Chocobo’s Mystery Dungeon: Every Buddy! will be released.

Will Square Enix release more information about Final Fantasy VII Remake next year? Let's hope so.

What about Hell and Heaven Net in 2019? Well, maybe the community forums will make its return and the website will be updated.

Happy Holidays!I want to wish everybody a Merry Christmas and a Happy 2018!

When I look back at the year 2017 it was the year that Final Fantasy XV got a lot of updates after the release on 30 November 2016. Also downloadable content has been released like Episode Gladiolus, Episode Prompto, Epiisode Ignis and the multiplayer expansion Comrades. Early this year NieR: Automata, the sequel to the 2010 game Nier, was released and the game received very positive reviews. Also Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age, the remastered version of the PlayStation 2 version Final Fantasy XII, was released. Other games that Square Enix released this year are Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, Dragon Quest Heroes II, Final Fantasy Awakening, Life Is Strange: Before the Storm, Final Fantasy IX and Star Ocean: The Last Hope 4K & Full HD Remaster.

What will 2018 bring us? In January Dissidia: Final Fantasy NT will be released, following with the remake of Secret of Mana in February. But when will Kingdom Hearts III be released? And will Square Enix announce more information (and a release date) of Final Fantasy VII Remake?

Happy Holidays!I want to wish everybody a Merry Christmas and a Happy 2014!

When I look back at the year 2013 it was the year that Square Enix released a lot of remakes. Final Fantasy IV, The After Years and Final Fantasy V for mobile devices and also new games like Final Fantasy All The Bravest (don't look at that game, it's crap). Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD ReMIX was released and Final Fantasy VIII got a digital re-release. In August Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn was worldwide launched (after the original version flopped), which had a bad start with servers that couldn't handle the amount of players.

It was also the year that Final Fantasy XV (first known as Final Fantasy Versus XIII) and Kingdom Hearts III where finally announced for the next generation consoles. Also, as expected, Kingdom Hearts 2.5 HD ReMIX was recently announced.

What will 2014 bring us? Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII will be up first. The third game in the Lightning-saga will hit stores in February. The HD version of Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy X-2 will be released in March (Japan will get them in 2 days). Other games that will be released are Drakengard 3 and Kingdom Hearts 2.5 HD ReMIX.

Hell and Heaven Net

Finally, after almost 3½ years having the same layout, Hell and Heaven Net has got a brand new one! Grey is the color I've choosen for version 13 *hides*, which meets with todays standards, since the old one was lacking that. With the new layout, I don't support old browser versions anymore and please use Firefox or Chrome to view the site at best.

With this change Hell and Heaven Net now also covers the retro Final Fantasy games and of course the latest release Final Fantasy XIII-2. All the new covered games have their introduction page up, but not have content yet. All the other covered games still uses the old layout, because the system has also been changed to a content management system (Drupal for those who want to know). All those covered games have to be converted to the new system to have the new layout. This will be done game by game.

A couple of sections (like features and reviews) are currently not available, but will be in the future. Some pages were removed, due to not up-to-date content. There could still be some bugs in the system.

You might also have noticed the Twitter and Facebook blocks at the bottom of the page. You can follow HHN on Twitter (@hhncom) and like us on Facebook.

Please leave a comment and let me know what your thoughts are with the brand new layout.

Hell and Heaven Net

I want to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

2011 was the year that Final Fantasy XIII-2 was announced, the sequel to the somewhat dissapointing Final Fantasy XIII and pushing back Final Fantasy Versus XIII even further. Also more Final Fantasy spinoffs were announced.

Will 2012 restore the Final Fantasy community? I think not after the damage Square Enix has already done.
