During the Final Fantasy XVI Pre-Launch Celebration live event that was streamed yesterday Square Enix has announced that Final Fantasy XVI will actually be getting a day one patch.

The patch will be around 300 MB and will contain the following fixes and optimizations:

  • Fix a control flag issue which can make progress impossible under very specific circumstances;
  • Fix an issue wherein the game could close unexpectedly under very specific circumstances;
  • Optimize performance in several places;
  • Fix some minor text errors.

At first the development team said that they've worked hard to release the game without a day one patch for which they apologised during the live event.

Also during the live event producer Naoki Yoshida mentioned that the game was initially planned to ship on two discs, but about six months before the release the development team they managed to fit the game on one disc to reduce production costs.

It seems that users on Reddit has noticed that the demo has appeared on the PlayStation Store, when you are using the mobile app. I can not reproduce it here, but it is possible that you need to have pre-ordered the game  to make it appear.

Most likely the demo will be available during or after the Final Fantasy XVI pre-launch event that will take place in Los Angeles on 11 June 2023 that will be live streamed.

You can check out the Final Fantasy XVI State of Play video below. Please note that it may contain spoilers.

During the stream Naoki Yoshida announced that the main theme of the game titled Tsuki Wo Miteita - Moongazing was written and performed by recording artist Kenshi Yonezu.

Worlds cannot express the impact Final Fantasy has had on my life. I never thought or imagined that I would ever receive an opportunity like this. I wrote this song especially for this game.
Thank you.

— Kenshi Yonezu

When I found out that we'd be able to work with Yonezu-san, I was not only surprised, but overjoyed.

I'm a big dan of Yonezu's work, and I know that he has a passion for creating music that resonates across the generations, so I was sure that he'd be able to capture the world, the story, and the themes of FFXVI.

He's not only an amazing artist, but also a avid gamer and a FF fan, so please look forward to hearing this theme song.

— Naoki Yoshida

The theme song teaser video can be viewed here.

On the Japanese PlayStation Blog producer Naoki Yoshida has stated that the PC version of Final Fantasy XVI won't be ready six months after the release of the PlayStation 5 version. At this time he can not reveal a release date.

I've caused a bit of a stir with my remarks the other day, but I'd like to touch on the PC version. First of all, it is true that Final Fantasy XVI is a six-month limited time exclusive on the PS5 platform. However, it is a completely different story that the PC version will be released in half a year. I will make it clear, but the PC version will not come out in half a year.

This is because we spent a lot of time and money optimizing the PS5 platform to deliver the best gaming experience. Of course, I would like to release a PC version at some point so that everyone can play as many games as possible. However, even if we start optimizing the PC version after the PS5 version comes out, we won't be able to optimize it in half a year, so it won't come out in a short span of half a year. I would like to release it eventually, and I think I will, but I am not at the stage where I can say when.

First of all, I would be happy if you could play the PS5 version, which I made with the thought of being the best game in the world. If the PC version comes out in half a year, I can quit the company (laughs). Please don't say, "I won't buy the PS5 version because the PC version will be released in half a year."

Final Fantasy XVI will be released on PlayStation 5 on 22 June 2023.

A message from Takeshi Aramaki, Head of Luminous Productions:

We’re so excited to celebrate the launch of Forspoken, and to have players finally experience Frey’s story. The development team and everyone involved have worked so hard to bring the vision of Forspoken to life and we cannot wait to see fans reaction. Having somehow survived this strange phenomenon and armed with a magical sentient bracelet called ‘Cuff’, Frey now offers Athia a last beacon of hope and must harness her newfound magical abilities to save Athia and find her way home.

The game was announced back in June 2020 as Project Athia. Originally the game was supposed to be released on 24 May 2022, but it was delayed to 11 October 2022 and now to 24 January 2023.
