According to the latest issue of the Japanese Dengeki PlayStation Square Enix will port Final Fantasy XI to the PlayStation 3. Final Fantasy's MMORPG was released on the PlayStation 2 and PC back in 2002 and for the Xbox 360 in 2006.

I think they're a little bit late with it.

Sony

Sony has announced a new version of the PlayStation 3 and is cutting the price of the current 60 GB version in North America and Europe.

The current price of the PlayStation 3 with the 60 GB HDD of $599 USD / €599 will fall to $499 USD / €499 and the new 80 GB version will be introduced in August for $599 USD / € 599.

The timing of the price cut came as a surprice since Ryoji Chubachi said last Friday that Sony has no plans at present to cut the price.

13/07 Update: Bad news for Europe: Sony has no plans to cut the price in Europe with 100 euros. They have announced that they will release a starter pack here with 2 first party games and 2 controllers for €599.

15/07 Update: Sony has confirmed that the recent price drop of the PlayStation 3 in North America is temporary.

On this moment there are two Final Fantasy XIII games and one mobile game announced. Now recently Motomu Toriyama of Square Enix has said that another console will make its entry in the series next to the PlayStation 3.
Rumors go to the Xbox 360, but it can also be that something will be available for the Nintendo DS, Wii or PSP.

We will keep you informed.

Sony

The day is finally here: Sony's PlayStation 3 has launched today in Europe! After a delay of 4 months because of problems with the Blu-ray drivers Sony has shipped 1,000,000 units to Europe. Some gameshops opened their doors at midnight, while some in Italy sold the console 2 days ago already. There are 27 launch games available.
So, if you have the money and want to have one, go get it!

Sony

Sony has just released its PlayStation 3 in Japan! The new console from Sony will mostly compete against the Xbox 360 from Microsoft, which is selling bad in Japan. Because of the only 100,000 units available the expectation will be that the PlayStation 3 will be sold out quickly.

The console will be available in the United States on November 17th and in Europe in March 2007, which actually became uncertain.

Sony

Previously, Sony delayed the PS3 in Europe and drastically cut the launch allocation in the rest of the world.
Today, according to a source at Kotaku, the company is apparently running short on developer hardware.

Here's exactly what this guy had to say:

"Sony has run out of PS3 test kits to give to developers. Since the announcement of the European launch being delayed, nobody has any idea what's going to happen with the PS3 port of F.E.A.R... specially since we only have the one PS3. And it's a devkit. In case you haven't seen those things, they sound like giant vacuum cleaners. They're reportedly ridiculously complicated to use, specially when upgrading the firmware. It has just the one controller, and it's not even the proper PS3 one even! It doesn't have those "innovative" changes from the PS3 controller, it's just a Dual Shock 2 with a USB Mini port."

There are two possible results of these last-minute problems. Either it's going to really hurt Sony with the PS3 hype, or it's all just going to even out to a small wrinkle in the PS3 lifespan and in the long run won't affect it at all. Only time will tell.
