Yoshinori Kitase, the producer of Final Fantasy XIII, has announced today at Gamescom that the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 version will be released simultaneously next spring in North America and Europe.

“We don’t have the actual month down yet, but in Japan it’s scheduled for a winter release, and in Europe and North American territories it’s spring 2010,” said the developer.

He also said that the team has made significant headway in cutting down the wait for North America and Europe.

“For previous titles it took usually about a year to localise each version and bring it over to Europe, but for this title there should be a considerably shorter gap and [we'll] bring it to European territories as close to the North American release as possible,” he said.

Eight new magazine scans from the latest issue of Dengeki have appeared. The first scan shows a new character who's name is Hope Estheim.

At Microsoft E3 Press Conference that is currently taking place Yoshinori Kitase and Motomu Toriyama appeared on stage to show the first footage of Final Fantasy XIII on the Xbox 360. The demo featured the English interface and voice acting. They also showed the summon Odin for the first time in the world.

Kitase announced that they expect to release the game in Spring 2010.

Update: For the fans that missed the press conference, you can watch the demo here (with thanks to GameTrailers).

As the release date of Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children--accompanied by the Final Fantasy XIII trial--is just one day away, some people have been lucky enough to grab hold of their copies. And, of course, the first attraction is the Final Fantasy XIII demo. Whilst playing through the trial, many people have begun trying to take screencaps and videos to post online for those unable to play the trial, there is one particular screenshot provided at the end of the trial.

It appears as though Square-Enix plans to capitalize on this holiday season as much as possible. Of course, this release window is strictly for Japan only. The US and EU release dates are expected to be sometime after April 2010.

Stay tuned for further updates on the release date of Final Fantasy XIII!

The countdown on the official websites has finally stopped and the new trailer is now available for watching! The trailer contains new footage of the game that hasn't been showed before. The websites seem to be kinda overloaded at the moment, so I've uploaded the trailer to the website. I still have to find the English subs.

On the official North American and European website of Final Fantasy XIII a countdown timer is displayed. Still 5 days and 18 hours to go (next Wednesday) and something new should be revealed according to the website.

"The countdown has begun. A new vision will soon be revealed to the world. Register now to ensure you're there for the unveiling."

Rumors go that it might be a new trailer. Maybe its just the time before the websites open.

Square Enix has announced that Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete will be released on Blu-ray in Japan on 16 April. The Limited Edition will also have a demo of Final Fantasy XIII will be included. The Limited Edition will have a retail price of 5,900 yen ($65 USD or €49 EUR). Advent Children Complete will feature English voices, but the demo is most likely in Japanese. Too bad.

Square Enix has also announced that in Japan a special Advent Children PS3 will be released called 'Cloud Black'. It will contain a 160 GB PlayStation 3, the movie and the Final Fantasy XIII demo. The retail price will be 49,980 yen ($550 USD or €415 EUR).

Yesterday Reuters held an interview with the president of Square Enix, Yoichi Wada. In the interview Yoichi Wada said that Final Fantasy XIII will be released in Japan in 2009 exclusively for the PlayStation 3 and that the game will be released in North America and Europe for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in the financial year 2010, that starts in April 2010.

Rumors were going around a few days ago that Final Fantasy XIII will get a worldwide release this year. I had my doubts about that already. This seems like a reasonable release, since translating the game takes a lot of time.
