Sad news a couple of days ago. It appears that tri-Ace, developer of the Star Ocean and Valkyrie Profile series, has been acquired by mobile developer Nepro Japan. This means that tr-Ace will no longer will be developer of JRPG's and is forced to develop mobile games.

tri-Ace is formed in 1995 and developed games like Star Ocean, Valkyrie Profile, Radiata Stories and Resonance of Fate. They've been pretty active lately helping Square Enix with Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy XIII-2 and developing Phantasy Star Nova that will be released by Sega.

Final Fantasy XIII

After Final Fantasy IV Square Enix has also announced this week that the Final Fantasy XIII trilogy will also be coming to Steam. On 9 October Final Fantasy XIII, the first game in the trilogy, will be available for purchase at Steam for $ 15.99 / € 12.99 / £ 10.99. If you pre-order the game, you'll receive a 10% discount.

Final Fantasy XIII was released back in 2010 on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 and takes place in the world of Cocoon and Pulse and was the first Final Fantasy in the series to have a female lead character. The other two games in the trilogy, Final Fantasy XIII-2 and Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII will be released in Spring 2015.

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII

While the release of Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII is only two weeks away, Square Enix has released a new trailer. But not any ordinary trailer, but a retrospecive look at the history of Final Fantasy XIII (the Lightning saga) in 16-bit quality. This trailer shows the story of Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy XIII-2 at lightning speed. Please mind that this trailer contains spoilers if you haven't played these games.

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII

Square Enix has announced that they have released a demo of Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII that can be downloaded from Xbox Games Store today and PlayStation Store. The demo takes place in the beginning of the game where you play as Lightning finding your old friend Snow in the city of Yusnaan. At the end of the demo you fight against the Zaltys boss and when you defeat them you can post your score to the Outerworld to unlock the Siegfried Garb in the full game. Outerworld is a feature that enables you to communicate with other players via social media.

You can download the Xbox 360 demo from the Xbox Games Store (North America / Europe). The PlayStaton 3 demo for North American users can be downloaded here. In Europe it will be available tomorrow. Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII will be available on 11 February in the North America and 14 February in Europe.

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII

Square Enix has revealed the Tokyo Game Show 2013 trailer of Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, the final chapter in Lightning's saga. In this trailer Caius, the main antagonist of Final Fantasy XIII-2 is back. An extended version of the trailer will be released shortly after the Tokyo Game Show ends on Sunday.

Why are Call of Duty Ghosts and Wolfenstein: The New Order on the list? Well, since Square Enix is the publisher for these games in Japan.

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII

Gamescom has begon and Square Enix released a new trailer of Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII called The Savior’s Choice. This trailer will take you to the The Wildlands; a rough expanse of wilderness that will reunite Lightning with Chocobos, Moogles (Kupo!), and an old friend: Sazh. There's also a glimpse of Lightning's unique battle abilities.

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII will be released in Japan on 21 November 2013. North America will follow on 11 February 2014 and Europe 3 days later on 14 February 2014.

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII will be playable at the E3 that will start tomorrow. Just before the start Square Enix has released a new trailer of the demo that takes place in the newly revealed city of Yusnaa where Lightning is chasing Snow and is being ambushed by Lumina.

Square Enix has revealed the E3 2013 trailer of Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII showing returning characters and gameplay from the final game in the Lightning saga. They have also announced that the game has been delayed and will now be released in North America on 11 February 2014 and Europe on 14 February 2014 instead of this year.

With only 9 days to go till the E3 2013 starts in Los Angeles, Square Enix has released the first E3 update on their Square Enix Presents YouTube channel. Square Enix Presents will show exclusive announcements and presentations during the E3 and will be hosted by Megan Marie (Community Manager at Crystal Dynamics). Guests that have been announced are Naoki Yoshida (Producer Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn), Yoshinori Kitase (Producer Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII) and Motomu Toriyama (Director Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII).

Hopefully a new Final Fantasy game will be announced or finally information about Final Fantasy Versus XIII (rename to Final Fantasy XV?).
