Development Dragon Quest XII restarted from scratch, new Dragon Quest Monsters announced

Today, on the 40th anniversary of the Dragon Quest series, Square Enix has released a short update video on upcoming Dragon Quest games with Yuji Horii, game designer, and Yosuke Saito, executive producer of the series.

The development of Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fate has been halted and they've decided to restart from scratch. The title of the game has been changed to Dragon Quest XII: Beyond Dreams. Alongside this change Square Enix has also released gameplay footage of the game showing the main protagonist and other party members (likely?).

Dragon Quest XII was announced 5 years ago during the 35th anniversary livestream.

Dragon Quest Monsters

A new game in the Dragon Quest Monsters spin-off series was announced: Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World is coming to Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam and Windows. The title follows dual protagonists Bianca and Nera, famously from Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride.
