Final Fantasy VII Remake

Yesterday Square Enix has released a statement update regarding the release of Final Fantasy VII Remake and the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.

As we prepare for the release of Final Fantasy VII Remake on April 10, we wanted to keep you updated on how the proactive measures being taken to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus are likely to affect the distribution and retail landscape in western regions at launch.

As you will be aware, many countries are limiting entry or closing their national and state borders and restricting the distribution and delivery of non-essential items. Understandably these restrictions are being implemented so that essential items can reach their destination as fast as possible.

This does not mean that box copies of Final Fantasy VII Remake will not be dispatched, it just means that we cannot control the date the game may arrive.

In many countries and states, retail stores are closing to help with social distancing measures. If you placed a pre-order with one of these retailers, we advise you to check their websites for the latest information about the status of pre-orders, as well as pick-up and/or delivery information. Please ensure your mailing address and contact details are up to date, as some retailers have begun contacting customers with delivery updates.

Finally, we are currently making arrangements to ensure that pre-orders from the Square Enix reach you by April 10.

We are working hard to ensure as many of you as possible can play the game on April 10 and will update further when we have more information.

Thank you for your continued support and most importantly, stay safe.

Stay safe and follow the restrictions of your country.

Square Enix has announced that Final Fantasy VII Remake will not be released worldwide on 3 March 2020, but has been delayed to 10 April 2020.

Below is a message from the development team:

We know that so many of you are looking forward to the release of Final Fantasy VII Remake and have been waiting patiently to experience what we have been working on. In order to ensure we deliver a game that is in-line with our vision, and the quality that our fans who have been waiting for deserve, we have decided to move the release date to April 10, 2020.

We are making this tough decision in order to give ourselves a few extra weeks to apply final polish to the game and to deliver you with the best possible experience. I, on behalf of the whole team, want to apologize to everyone, as I know this means waiting for the game just a little bit longer.

Thank you for your patience and continued support”

-- Yoshinori Kitase, Producer of Final Fantasy VII Remake.

Last week the listing of the Final Fantasy VII Remake demo in the PlayStation Store was leaked. However it seems that now the full demo has been leaked. It is listed on an open file server along with the full game (which has been removed now).

Footage has been uploaded on YouTube from the demo. YouTube user Lystrasza has successfully got the demo working, most likely on a modded or jailbraiked PlayStation 4, and has uploaded the opening cutscene of the game.

More footage has appeared on YouTube so it seems other users also got the demo working. Here's a video of the full demo. Better watch it now, before it will be removed.

The demo starts at the beginning of Final Fantasy VII (Remake), the bombing of the Mako Reactor 1 and ends after it's destruction. Final Fantasy VII Remake will be released on 3 March 2020.

Update: It seems more than only the demo has been leaked. After people have data-mined the package, which is 10GB, additional content has been found that is otherwise impossible to find in the course of the demo. We will not post these things, but you've been warned!

The games tracker on Gamstat, a page that lists every new addition to the PlayStation Store, has listed the demo of Final Fantasy VII Remake with the cover. The cover was later removed from playstation.net, but has been saved.

The demo has not been confirmed by Square Enix, but it seems to be coming. Will this be the same demo that was playable at multiple conferences (like E3 and gamescom)? Final Fantasy VII Remake will be released on PlayStation 4 on 3 March 2020.
