Square Enix has announced that the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster series, that is now only available on Steam and mobile platforms, will be launched digitally for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch on 19 April 2023. The Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster series are the first six games from the Final Fantasy series, that were originally released on Nintendo and Super Nintendo, in a remastered version.

The PlaySattion 4 and Nintendo Switch version will contain some unique features like the option to switch between the rearranged and original-based soundtrack for the game, switch between the original font and the pixel-based font, switching off random encounters and adjusting experience gained multipliers between 0 and 4.

You can purchase the games individually or as a complete series in a bundle.

Earlier this week reports where coming in that the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster series is coming to PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch after it has been rated by the ESRB. Today, on the 35th anniversary of the Final Fantasy series, Square Enix has confirmed that the series will be released in Spring 2023.

If you want to digitally purchase these games, you have the option to purchase them individually or together as a bundle. If you want he Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster series physical, there are two limited editions available: Standard Edition and the FF35th Anniversary Edition.

Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster FF35th Anniversary Edition

The FF35th Anniversary Edition will include the following:

  • FINAL FANTASY I-VI COLLECTION - physical collection of all games for either PS4 or Nintendo Switch-
  • Anniversary Edition GOODS BOX.
  • A bonus lenticular sleeve for the game package.
  • 2-disc vinyl record set featuring newly arranged game music with exclusive cover artwork by Kazuko Shibuya
  • A specially compiled artbook showcasing beautiful character pixel art.
  • Eight stylized pixel art character figures in window packaging.

Both physical editions are exclusive to the Square Enix Store and are now available for pre-order. However a couple of hours after the announcement the Standard Edition is already sold out.

Final Fantasy III

The first three games in the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster series (Final Fantasy, Final Fantasy II and Final Fantasy III) are now available on PC via Steam and mobile devices. The other 3 classic titles, Final Fantasy IV, Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy VI, will follow at a later date this year.

These versions contains the following upgrades:

  • Universally updated 2D pixel graphics redrawn for modern hardware, featuring iconic Final Fantasy character pixel designs created by the original artist and current collaborator, Kazuko Shibuya
  • Beautifully rearranged soundtracks, overseen by the original composer, Nobuo Uematsu
  • Improved gameplay, including modernized UI, auto-battle options, and more
  • Quality-of-life improvements including supplemental extras like the bestiary, illustration gallery, music player and the ability to save at any time

If you purchase Final Fantasy, Final Fantasy II or Final Fantasy III by 11 August 2021 you'll receive a small music bonus, a couple of wallpapers and a 20% discount per title. You can also purchase a bundle which features all 6 games at a higher discount on Steam.

With this release the old versions of Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy VI have been de-listed from Steam. On mobile platform Final Fantasy, Final Fantasy II, Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy VI have been de-listed. Players who purchased the games can still download and play them. However the versions will not be updated anymore.

Square Enix has announced that the first three Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster titles are now available for pre-purchase on Steam individually or as a bundle, and will launch on 28 July 2021. One day later the first three Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster titles will also be released on mobile platforms. The other three titles will follow later this year.

The Steam pages for the six Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster titles are online. The first three titles are on sale 20% off till 11 August 2021 and if you pre-purchase them you'll receive a small music bonus and a couple of wallpapers. Below you can view the screenshots and the link to the Steam pages.

The old Steam versions of Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy VI will be delisted on 27 July 2021. On Google Play all old versions will be delisted on 28 July 2021.

Earlier today Square Enix streamed Square Enix Presents Summer Showcase. During the stream the company announced that the first six games in the Final Fantasy series will be remastered for Steam and mobile platforms.

The series will be known as the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster series and the six games will be released individually. Only a teaser was revealed showing some footage from the remastered games.

Square Enix has announced that they've have started a massive Final Fantasy sale in the European PlayStation Store. Almost all available games in the Final Fantasy series are 50% off. PlayStation Plus users receive an additional 10% (which actually is a total of 55% off!).  Here's the full list of games on offer:

For those who still haven't played the first two games of the Final Fantasy series, Square Enix has announced that Final Fantasy and Final Fantasy II will be released on PlayStation Network.

Final Fantasy will be released on 16 February and Final Fantasy II on 2 March and will be priced €9.99 / £7.99 each. It's unknown which version it will be. Likely the PSone version, since Japan also has that version.

Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy will include a voucher that gives 50% off Final Fantasy and The 3rd Birthday will include a voucher for Final Fantasy II.

Update: Final Fantasy has been released and it's the PSP version.

Square Enix

Square Enix has announced that they will release the remakes of Final Fantasy and Final Fantasy II for the PlayStation Portable separately across Europe in early 2008. The new edition features redrawn graphics and character art, exclusive all-new dungeons, full 16: 9 widescreen visuals and an updated camera view that gives players a new perspective on these two timeless classics that defined the RPG genre.

Square Enix has announced that Final Fantasy I Anniversary Edition for the PlayStation Portable will be available in the United States at June 26th.
Final Fantasy II Anniversary Edition will be released at July 24th.
