Final Fantasy IX animated series in development

Cyber Group Studios, a developer, producer and distributor of animated television series and movies for children located in Paris, has signed a co-development and co-production deal with Square Enix to adapt Final Fantasy IX to an animated series for eight- to 13 years old. This according to a Kidscreen report. Cyber Group will also handle worldwide distribution, licensing and merchandise.

Pierre Sissmann, CEO of Cyber Group Studios, said that the company is putting the finishing touches on a project bible, and plans to begin pitching it to broadcasters in the coming months. The goal is to begin production by the end of 2021 or beginning of 2022.

Cyber Group Studios has partnered with Square Enix before. In 2009 Eidos Interactive (now part of Square Enix) released Mini Ninjas, an action-adventure game. In 2015 the animated series was aired on several networks that was produced by Cyber Group Studios.

Final Fantasy IX was originally released on the PlayStation in 2000 and goes back to the medieval style seen in earlier games in the Final Fantasy series. Now it can also be played on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Steam, Android and iOS devices.
