Sad news a couple of days ago. It appears that tri-Ace, developer of the Star Ocean and Valkyrie Profile series, has been acquired by mobile developer Nepro Japan. This means that tr-Ace will no longer will be developer of JRPG's and is forced to develop mobile games.

Star Ocean: The Last Hope

tri-Ace is formed in 1995 and developed games like Star Ocean, Valkyrie Profile, Radiata Stories and Resonance of Fate. They've been pretty active lately helping Square Enix with Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy XIII-2 and developing Phantasy Star Nova that will be released by Sega.

Square Enix has opened their official website of the Nintendo DS remake of Final Fantasy IV.
They've also opened an official Star Ocean portal called Eternal Sphere that will cover the two remakes Star Ocean: First Departure and Star Ocean: Second Evolution and the new game Star Ocean 4. When you click on one of the games you'll see TGS2007, which most likely means that more information about the games will be announced on the Tokyo Game Show.

Star Ocean 4

During a press conference in Japan Square Enix has announced that they are working on Star Ocean 4, which is the work title. The game will be developed by tri-Ace, which also did the previous Star Ocean games. On which platform the game will be developed for has not been said, but we will surely find out soon.

More Star Ocean news: The first two Star Ocean games will be remade for PlayStation Portable. They will be named Star Ocean First Departure and Star Ocean Second Evolution. The remakes will contain new character designs, new playable heroes, voices and movies.
