Final Fantasy VII

In an interview with the Japanese magazine Dorimaga Tetsuya Nomura has denied that Final Fantasy VII will be remade. He said: "It appears that there are often overseas rumors like 'Are you currently developing a VII remake?' My apologies, but we're absolutely not making such a game."

This doesn't exclude that the game will ever be made. Read the complete article at IGN.

Final Fantasy VII

Tomorrow it's 10 years ago that Final Fantasy VII was released in stores across Japan. So far it's unknown if Square Enix will plan something on this birthday, because also the Final Fantasy series will celebrate its 20th anniversary in December.

A few days ago we posted an article about Square Enix releasing 5 titles in Japan this year, but Tetsuya Nomura didn't say what the 5th title will be. But it should be announced soon.

So maybe Square Enix will announce something around Final Fantasy VII tomorrow on its 10th anniversary. We will keep you updated.

Final Fantasy VII

Retail giant Best Buy has begun taking preorders for the Final Fantasy VII remake for PlayStation 3 (see for yourself right here -- an event we found curious, considering the fact that Square Enix has repeatedly told the press that the game hasn't been confirmed (as evidenced in this story) and was only intended to be a tech demo for the PS3 hardware at E3 2005.

As always, your buddies here at IGN contacted Square Enix representatives to see what the story is. Here's what they had to say:

"We have confirmed that Final Fantasy XIII is in development, but have NOT confirmed a FF7 remake at any time. The remake has been a popular subject for rumors, but that's all they are. Obviously the Best Buy listing was made in error."

Is Final Fantasy VII PS3 the rumor that wouldn't die?

Final Fantasy VII

In the recent issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly the magazine made a comment in their PS3 section about the classic RPG Final Fantasy VII.

"Last year, Square Enix teased everyone with what was called the "FFVII PS3 demo," the article states. "Well, what do you know? This test case was really a sneak peek at a next-gen revival of the PS1 role-playing hit."

Everywhere on the net things were placed like "FF7 Remake Confirmed!", but when IGN asked Square Enix more about this they stated this:
"Since the FINAL FANTASY VII tech demo at E3 2005, there have been a lot of rumors about the presentation hinting at an actual remake. While the June 2006 issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly confirms the remake for release in 2007, Square Enix has never stated this.

We have however confirmed that development has begun for Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy Versus XIII on PlayStation 3. These titles are part of the Fabula Nova Crystallis Project which also includes a mobile game titled FINAL FANTASY Agito XIII."

Now it's not that the game never will be made, it is just not the time for it yet.
