Final Fantasy XIV

Today the first major patch of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn has gone live! Version 2.1, named A Realm Awoken, introduces large-scale additions and refinements made to Eorzea. Square Enix has provided a 10 minute long video introducing area's like the Crystal Tower (for an alliance of 24 players), PvP Arena, a housing system for free companies and rebalanced job actions.

Last week Square Enix has presented their financial results over the last 6 months ending 30 September. In the previous news item it was already mentioned that since the launch of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn the game has been a success. The game has sold approximately 1.1 million physical copies and 350,000 downloadable copies. The current number of active players has exceeded 600,000, which has already exceeded the peak of Final Fantasy XI. They did also announce three strategic changes to the digital entertainment business that they're going to take.

Nosgoth

Western studios will shift focus to and focus on the production of online-based titles. Also the price model will change from fixed to other earning models (like F2P). Nosgoth, a F2P battle action game taking place in the Legacy of Kain environment that is currently in development by Psyonix for PC, was cited as an example.

Studios in Japan will accelerate the production of titles for smart devices. Titles like Dragon Quest VIII and Final Fantasy Agito will be available soon. Last change that Square Enix is going to take is to expand in Asia and to release Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn in China.

Final Fantasy XIV

Square Enix has announced that since the launch of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn the total number of accounts has surpassed 1.5 million worldwide. Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is a rebuild of the original version which was poorly received and takes place 5 years after the destruction of most of Eorzea by the primal dragon Bahamut. The launch of the game however did not go well. Due to an overwhelmingly positive response there were continued server issues. Some servers were closed for new players and the digital downloaded version was temporary suspended.

Final Fantasy XIV

On a press conference held by Sony today the release date of the PlayStation 4 was announced for Japan which will be 22 February 2014. This is the first time that Japan, home of PlayStation, will get the system 3 months after the United States and Europe.

Square Enix has announced that starting on that day the beta tests of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn for the PlayStation 4 will begin. Also players who are currently playing the PlayStation 3 version can switch to the PlayStation 4 version for free.

It seems that Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is so populair and due to long waiting times for people who want to play the game Square Enix has halted the digital sales to fix the server issues.

Final Fantasy XIV

After 3 closed beta's and previous weekend the open beta today is the day that Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is available worldwide for PC and PlayStation 3! Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn (previously known as Final Fantasy XIV: Version 2.0) is a rebuild of the original version which was released back in 2010, but was poorly received.

Players who pre-ordered the game and players with legacy status can already play the game for three days, only during these days Square Enix had a lot of technical issues and due to high traffic a login limitation was setup causing a lot of players getting errors or standing in a queue.

Square Enix has announced their line-up for gamescom, the largest trade fair for video games that takes place from 21 till 25 August in Cologne.

Final Fantasy XIV

Today part VIII of the Letter of the Producer was streamed live on YouTube. During the stream a Q&A session was held and new details have been announced containing the open beta and early access.

The open beta phase of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn will run from 17 till 19 August. Those who participated in the beta phase 3 can participate on 16 August. During the open beta the level cap will be set to level 20 and game content will also be restricted to that which can be done within level 20.

Early access will start on 24 August while the official service starts 27 August. Next to the current methods of payment, players can now also buy prepaid cards in stores which comes in 30 and 60 day options.

Letter from the Producer Part VII

Another feature that was showed today during the stream was the app called Libra Eorzea where players can login and check their character, check their gear, quests, instances and more. The iOS version will be available a week after the launch for free. Android will follow in a month.

Square Enix has announced on Twitter that the amount of beta test sign ups for Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn has surpassed 1 million. Currently the beta is in phase 3 and accepted participants can play the game this Friday again starting from 09:00 UTC till Sunday 09:00 UTC. After phase 3 the open beta phase will commence.

Also the new Lodestone has been opened for beta testing and so far it looks impressive. You can now also check your character's statistics and other information.
