Final Fantasy XV

During the Paris Game Week 2016 Square Enix has announced that Final Fantasy XV has gone gold. The development will now be shifted towards creation of the downloadable content (DLC) with Episode Gladiolus being the first one that will be available. Also online multiplayer is coming.

The main focus of the Season Pass is three original episodes that take place during the events of Final Fantasy XV. Each episode allows players to take control of one of Noctis’ comrades in all-new adventures that offer unique play styles tailored to each character. Players can explore previously unseen areas filled with new monsters, and even obtain weapons that can later be used in the main game. Episode Gladiolus is the first new character adventure to arrive, and will be followed by Episode Ignis and Episode Prompto. Each episode will be available for purchase individually.

Following the release of the character episodes, Comrades—an expansion pack for Final Fantasy XV—will introduce a brand-new online co-op mode for up to four players which features intense battles allowing players to take full control of Noctis, Gladio, Prompto and Ignis as a group. Comrades will be available for separate purchase, and is also included in the Season Pass.

This additional content and character episodes are managed by Haruyoshi Sawatari (Producer, Business Division 2) and overseen by Final Fantasy XV Director Hajime Tabata with development led by core members of the Final Fantasy XV team.

Last year I travelled around the world and attended many game events. I felt an amazing passion and sense of expectation towards Final Fantasy XV from series fans everywhere. From seeing that I really wanted to make it so that the fans could enjoy the game for longer and evolve and expand it even further. I will take these feelings and give them form, to deliver an amazing experience.

Final Fantasy XV

Recently Hajime Tabata, director of Final Fantasy XV, has been interviewed by Spanish website Vida Extra and he dropped quite a few interesting things.

On the question how long it will take to release a PC version (if it is in consideration) Tabata had the following to say:

On that hypothesis, not talking about something real, just an idea, if we worked on a PC version of what I have very clear is that we would work to provide a better version of what we have now on consoles. We could say that something like this would take us more than a year. We should work to adapt the engine, which is very laborious, and from there to develop its course.

The other interesting thing Tabata mentioned is that Square Enix is toying with a DLC specifically made for PlayStation VR:

Final Fantasy XV was obviously not designed for PS4 Pro from the beginning, but obviously we work following the launch to go adapting to the new consoles appear and improve it according to their power. What we do have is the idea of launching a focused DLC PS VR.

What you saw at E3 was just a technical demo. I’m talking about a whole new DLC so you can play from VR. Not the whole, of course, would be additional game content, perhaps a particular part of the game to be enjoyed in virtual reality.

With the recent delay Square Enix is trying to squeeze a lot of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One and recently footage has appeared showing improved graphics from earlier builds. The game will be released on 29 November 2016.

Square Enix has announced that NieR: Automata, their upcoming action-RPG from PlatinumGames, will also be launched on Steam next to the PlayStation 4 version early 2017.

NieR: Automata is the sequel to the cult-hit NieR and was announced in 2015 at the Square Enix's E3 press conference. The game tells the story of androids 2B, 9S and A2 and their battle to reclaim a machine-driven dystopia overrun by powerful weapons known as machine lifeforms. First it was planned to be released in November, but Square Enix delayed the title due to concerns how the game might perform between other titles.

Final Fantasy XV

Yesterday, when the sad news arrived that Final Fantasy XV has been delayed till 29 November 2016, Hajime Tabata made a promise that today they will release a 30 minutes gameplay video. He keeped his promise and the gameplay video is not 30 minutes, but 53 minutes long!

This video contains gameplay from the master version of the game which has just been finished a few days ago. The video contains many cuts and switchesback and forth between the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One version.

Please note that this video contains many spoilers!

Final Fantasy XV

Hajime Tabata, director of Final Fantasy XV, has announced today that Final Fantasy XV will not be released on 30 September 2016, but two months later on 29 November 2016 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

The reason for this delay is to allow the development teams to have more time to further polish and conduct quality testing so that the reality of the game can match the expectations of both the fans and the creative teams.

Hajime Tabata had the following to say:

From the moment we joined this project, our vision was to create a level of freedom and realism previously unseen in the series. Regrettably, we need a little bit more time to deliver on this vision and are confident that this new release date will help us achieve this.

As the director and lead of this project, I wish to personally apologize for the additional wait. As a team, we want FINAL FANTASY XV to achieve a level of perfection that our fans deserve. We kindly ask for your understanding.

The team recently completed work on the master version of the game and they are currently working on a 'zero day patch'. He explains that when the game was released on 30 September 2016 with this patch, not everyone could download the patch due to not everyone having a good internet connection.

Tomorrow a 30 minutes gameplay video will be released of the master version and it will be playable at gamescom starting later this week.

Please note that you have to switch on subtitles (if you don't understand Japanese)
