Chocobos

Basics
What are chocobos, you ask? They are like Osteriches, but without the long necks. And they are completely yellow, except for the special ones. They run at fast paces, and they have a fetish for Greens. They are a classic in FF gaming, and are in every Final Fantasy game. But only in some Final Fantasy games will you find ones that have special abilities. Here, you will find out about FF7's special chocobos.

Normal Chocobos
The normal, yellow chocobos have nothing special to them, except for they can come in different classes. You can find yourself a wonderful chocobo, or a terrible one. To find a wonderful one, you must search the areas of Icicle Inn. Here, you run a 50/50 chance of getting either a terrible one, or a wonderful one. Be sure that the wonderful one is a female though, by checking the Chocobo Farm (more information on this found in Breeding Chocobos Side Quest).

Green Chocobos
The green chocobos, are always going to be in the wonderful rank, as will every other special chocobo. The green chocobo is called the "Mountain Chocobo" because it can run over mountains. It is also very easy to train, but has a low stamina and speed rate.

Blue Chocobos
The blue chocobo is the exact same as a green chocobo, except it cannot run over mountains. The blue chocobo is called the "River Chocobo" and can run over shallow waters. It is also easy to train, but has a small speed and stamina rate, compared to the other special chocobos.

Black Chocobos
The black chocobo, is a blue and green chocobo combined, if you would call it that. It can run over mountains, and shallow rivers. Plus, it is twice as easy to train, and has nearly twice as much stamina and speed for the races.

Gold Chocobos
The ultimate chocobo; it can do anything. It can run over mountains, run over shallow water, run over deep water. It can go anywhere on the map, and it is very easy to train. It also starts off with a high stamina and speed rate.

Racing Chocobos
Now the time has come, to race your chocobos. In order to breed good special chocobos with high chances, you must race and increase the Class of your chocobo. They all start off with Class D, and it takes two races-regardless of the length of the track you choose-to bring their class up one time. The highest Class is S, but it is hard to get there. The best thing to do, is to feed your chocobo tons of greens until it's Intelligence, Speed and Stamina are at maximum. This insures you the win.

To race your chocobos, just go to the Gold Saucer. If you have not bought a Lifetime Pass here yet, it is advised that you do so. This way, you keep your GP regardless if you leave or not. Once inside, go to the Chocobo Square and talk to the Chocobo Trainer at the door. She will guide you threw the steps again if you need, and then you can pick your track and chocobo.
