Materia: Magic | Support | Command | Independent | Summon

In order to cast spells in Final Fantasy VII you have to equip materia. Some materia contains a spell that can be cast, others can improve your stats or support you. Materia can be equipped in weapons and armor. When you defeated enemies you'll get AP and almost every materia needs it to level up and master them. How fast a materia levels up depends on the growth of the weapon/armor and the AP amount needed.

There are five groups of materia:

• Magic Materia
  These green orbs are most used. You can cast various magic spells like Cure, Fire, Ice, Bolt, Bio. Most magic materia have 3 stages of level up.

• Support Materia
  You can attach these blue orbs to other materia to increase their effect.

• Command Materia
  The yellow orbs will add commands to your list, but some are not really useful. Some have 2 stages of level up, but when it's level up you lose the old command.

• Independent Materia
  Purple orbs that act themselves. Most of them increases stats.

• Summon Materia
  With red orbs you can cast Summons in battle that causes big damage!
