Final Fantasy VII Remake shifts to in-house development

Square Enix has decided to shift the development of Final Fantasy VII Remake in-house. Previously the game was developed by third party studio CyberConnect2, best known for their .hack and Naruto games.

This was announced by Naoki Hamaguchi during the livestream of Mobius Final Fantasy 2nd anniversary:

“I’ve taken over the development side of the Final Fantasy VII Remake. Up until now, development has progressed by receiving external collaboration, but from here on out, with production and quality in mind, we’re shifting to our in-house organization. This company decision was made wanting to control quality as well as keeping the schedule stable.”

More details about the shedule were not given. Final Fantasy VII Remake was announced 2 years ago at E3 2015. Not much information has been released since, only that the remake will be released in episodes.
